Indian Arms Factories were
setup in 1775 by the British Authorities with the name of Board of
Ordnance to secure the interests of East India Company by supplying arms
to Military. After independence it came under Indian Government as
Ordnance Factories Board. Now Ordnance Factories Board consists
of 41 Indian Ordnance Factories with a workforce of 1,50,000. Besides
that it has 3 regional marketing centers and 9 training institutions.
The main objective of Indian Ordnance Factories is to produce arms,
ammunition and other military equipments to supply military needs. That
is why it is also called 4th Arm of Defence.
