About Indian Coast Guard
Indian
coast guard is active and serving the nation by securing the nation’s maritime
boarders and jurisdiction since 1978. It’s mission is to protect both our
territorial and international waters (economic zone). It is one of the wing of
armed forces of India and was first proposed by Indian Navy to provide
non-military services to the country. Earlier these duties were performed by the
customs department with the help of Indian Navy. Later it was decided to
establish a separate maritime service as recommended by the Indian Navy and
Indian Air Force. In 1974 Rustamji Committee was set up to study
the security threats and gaps of our defence forces with the officials of Air
force and Navy Departments. As per the recommendations of this committee Indian
Coast Guard was established in 1978 under the Ministry of Defence. Since then
it is serving our nation with dedication and vigilance.
