What is Indian Navy Short Service Commission and what is it’s initial posting?
Short Service Commission
is a 14 year service period as officers in Indian Navy. Candidates qualify in
this examination will be inducted as officers under Short Service Commission.
Indian Navy Short Service Commission is granted for 10 years which can be
extended for further 4 years depending upon the performance and willingness of
the candidate. His initial post will be as Sub
Lieutenant (SLt) in scale 15600 – 39100 + GP 5400 + MSP 6000 and he may reach
up to Commander (PB-4/37400 - 67000 +
GP 8000 + MSP 6000) Level by the end of his tenure. He is entitled for gratuity and other
benefits as per extent rules after completion of his tenure. A person joined as
Short Service Commission officer in Indian Navy will not be given extension

Short Service Commission as Pilot / Observer in Executive Branch
Age Limit: 19 to 24 years born between 02 July 1990 to 01 July 1995
Entry-> Pilot (only for men)
Entry-> Observer (Men and Women both can apply)
Educational Qualifications:
A candidate applying
for Short Service Commission officer post
in Indian Navy Executive Branch should possesses Graduation with not less than
70% marks. Besides that he should have passed his intermediate (10+2) with
Mathematics and Physics. If a candidate holds Commercial Pilot License then
graduation with 60% marks will suffice to apply for these posts in Indian Navy

Physical Standards: Minimum height for a male candidate is 162.5 CMs and for women candidate
is 152 CMs with correlated weight. There will be no relaxation in physical
standards whatever the case may be.

Indian Navy Selection Process:
The selection of Short Service
Commission Officers in Indian Navy will be done through interview which will be
in 2 stages. The selection process will be for 5 days. Stage-1 will be for one
day and Stage-2 for 4 days.
Stage-1: Intelligence
Test -> Picture Perception -> Group Discussion
Stage-2: Psychological
Test -> Group Task Test -> Interview
Candidates who fail in stage-1 will
not be allowed for stage-2 selection process in Indian Navy.

Training:
Short Service Commission pilot
candidates will be inducted as Sub Lieutenants and have to undergo Naval
Orientation Course at Indian Naval Academy. After this course Flying Training
is given in Air Force Academy and Indian Naval Establishments. There will be
two stages in this training. Upon successful completion of this training they

Observer candidates will be inducted as Sub Lieutenants and have to complete
the same Naval Orientation Course in Indian Naval Academy. After completion of
this course they will be given Professional training in various naval training
establishments, units and ships.
